INFORMATION ABOUT PERTH JUNIORS

Perth Junior Curling Club (PJCC) meet on a Tuesday, from 4pm – 5.15/5.30pm at Dewars Rink.

The aim of the Junior Club is to promote the sport of curling in the 7-21 age group and foster fair play, sportsmanship and excellence.

Curlers with PJCC are coached by a team of experienced coaches, all of whom are qualified and accredited by RCCC, are friendly and enthusiastic, and will encourage your junior curler from day one.

During the Tuesday sessions, the junior curlers are split into rinks depending on their ability and experience. New curlers will be with other juniors at the same stage.

MEMBERSHIP

Before starting junior curling, we need to get a few details and consent.  Please see details on how to contact us.

Junior membership allows access to the extensive coaching programme held in Dewars during the Tuesday after-school sessions; and enables junior curlers to play for, and represent, PJCC in local and national matches throughout the season.

CLOTHING, FOOTWEAR AND EQUIPMENT

Whilst there are no special requirements for clothing, (we suggest layers and stretchy materials such as tracksuit bottoms and fleeces) footwear must be suitable and clean. Specialised curling shoes are not required to learn to curl.  Trainers are ideal, but the soles must be really clean – absolutely no mud or grit or salt on them as that causes problems with the ice surface. The clean shoes must not be worn outside.  All other equipment is available to borrow at the rink.

COMPETITION DATES

PJCC enters teams into a variety of competitions throughout the season. There may be an opportunity for your junior curler to take part in one of these, depending on their age and availability. Details will be sent out during the season, if applicable.

SKILLS AWARDS

If a junior curler progresses through the season, there may be the chance to sit the first Skills Award later in the season. This is a combination of a practical assessment on the ice, and a short written paper, and is the first award recognising the participation of the new curler. Once successfully completed, they will receive a certificate and badge.
